Your CO2 Laser Guide: From a Quick Glow to Wrinkle Resurfacing

One Laser, Two Very Different Treatments

CoolPeel mode is a light, surface-level refresh for dull or crepey skin, while DEKA mode is a deeper, more powerful resurfacing treatment for moderate to deep wrinkles.

At Glowing U Wellness in Torrance, both treatments come from the same machine: the Tetra Pro CO2 laser. Because they share a machine, many clients assume they are the same treatment at different strengths. They are not. Each mode works at a different depth of the skin, delivers heat differently, and solves a different problem.

This guide explains the difference, so you can walk into your consultation knowing which option fits your goals.

Two Modes, Two Depths

The real difference between CoolPeel and DEKA mode is how deep the laser reaches and how much heat it leaves behind.

CoolPeel mode fires a very fast, high-power pulse. It removes a microscopic layer at the surface and leaves almost no heat behind. Think of it as a polish: brighter, smoother, more even skin, with minimal downtime.

DEKA mode lets the energy dwell longer in the skin. It creates tiny columns that reach down into the dermis, surrounded by a zone of controlled heat. That heat is what tells your skin to rebuild collagen in a big way. This is true resurfacing, and it is why DEKA mode delivers stronger results on moderate and deep wrinkles.

Side by Side: CoolPeel Mode vs. DEKA Mode

The simplest way to remember it: CoolPeel polishes the surface, and DEKA mode rebuilds from deeper down.

Dwell time means how long the laser energy stays in the skin with each pulse. More dwell time sends heat deeper, which is what drives stronger tightening and wrinkle reduction.

Which Mode Fits Your Skin?

Match the treatment to the depth of your concern: CoolPeel for surface concerns, DEKA mode for wrinkles that have set in.

Choose CoolPeel mode if your skin looks dull or tired, feels thin or crepey, or has uneven tone and early fine lines. It is a great maintenance treatment, and it fits a busy schedule.

Choose DEKA mode if you have moderate to deep wrinkles, deeper texture or scarring, and you want the biggest change possible from your laser treatment. It asks for more healing time, but it gives a more dramatic result.

A surface treatment cannot erase a deep wrinkle, because the wrinkle starts below where the laser reaches. That is why we never just pick the gentler option. We pick the one that matches what your skin needs.

The Complete DEKA Mode Protocol for Skin Types IV–VI

For medium to deep skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types IV to VI), our DEKA mode treatment is a complete 3-step protocol, not a single appointment.

Deeper skin tones have more active melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. When deeper laser heat reaches that melanin, it can respond by making extra pigment. This leads to dark patches called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or PIH. Our protocol is built to prevent that.

  1. Two weeks of pretreatment. You use a melanin inhibitor at home for 2 weeks before your appointment. It calms the cells that make pigment, so they are less reactive when the laser works.

  2. Cryo cooling on treatment day. We cool your skin with cryo before and during your DEKA mode treatment. This pulls away extra heat that could otherwise be absorbed and trigger pigmentation.

  3. A post-care package. You go home with the products and instructions your skin needs to calm, protect and heal well.

Prep, cool, protect. Together, these steps let clients with deeper skin tones enjoy the full power of DEKA mode resurfacing with confidence.

Common Questions

• Is DEKA mode just a stronger CoolPeel? No. It works differently. CoolPeel stays at the surface with very little heat. DEKA mode reaches deeper and uses longer dwell time to remodel collagen, which is what changes deeper wrinkles.

• If I choose DEKA mode, do I also get CoolPeel? Yes. Every DEKA mode treatment at Glowing U Wellness includes a CoolPeel pass in the same session, for the price of DEKA mode alone. DEKA mode works on deeper wrinkles while CoolPeel refreshes the surface, so you get both benefits in one visit without paying twice.

• Is CO2 laser safe for darker skin? With the right protocol, yes. That is why DEKA mode for skin types IV to VI always includes 2 weeks of melanin-inhibitor pretreatment, cryo cooling on treatment day and a post-care package.

• Do I need pretreatment for CoolPeel? No. CoolPeel mode is very superficial, so no pretreatment is needed for any skin type. The 2-week pretreatment is only for DEKA mode on skin types IV to VI.
